In the Garden of Eden...

According to the Bible, the first man and woman lived in a paradice called Eden. The only condition to their continued stay was that the never eat the fruit from the tree of wisdom. However, the serpent convinced Eve, the first woman, to try the fruit, which she shared with Adam, the first man. Because of their disobediance they were cast out of Eden.

The Testing of Abraham

In the testing of Abraham, God told Abraham to take his only child, Issac, up on the mountainside and sacrifice him to prove his faith. When they arived on the mountainside Abraham almost could not bear to continue, but Issac, learning the truth, convinced him that it was nessisary. It is common in fairy tales for a father to have to sacrafice his child because of a rash promise or broken trust. Rapunzel's father promised her to the witch for a handful of lettuce; Beauty took her father's place in the beasts castle.
