Scottish ballads like "Tam-Lin" and "Thomas the Rhymer" are unique because they are a few of the fairy tales that actually contain fairies (sort of).
These ballads and similar stories are about mortals who stories are about mortals who deal with the fey folk (or the Sidhe).
In "Tam-Lin" fair Janet (or lady Margaret) rescues her mortal lover Tam-Lin from the queen of the fairies, because she is steadfast and true.
In "Thomas the Rhymer" (or "True Thomas") the Fairy Queen takes the bard on a journey to Fairie, because he heeds her counsel he survives the journey and is rewarded with a tongue that ne're can lie.
Tam-Lin sung by Ruthann Petersen and Chelsey Good on Febuary 16th, 2000.
