Waiting Gains

She thought that she must say goodbye e'en though she loved him so
But far and distant was a man who sought for love to grow.
Her loved one came to her, they talked of choices they must make
To leave the love they shared behind... to let her go with Jake

Her choices, as she visioned then, were of a future life
Or nights of endless waiting for the man who has a wife.
They pledged their love through joy and tears and finally said goodbye
Then visions cleared and both of them returned to asking why.

With him she shared an ecstasy and felt the love that flowed
His loving, caring selflessness, his goodbye tears that glowed
He never tried to rule her soul, he never talked her down
Had openness and honesty beyond a playful frown

No promises he could not keep, nor false dreams did he preach
His love for her was all for her, not held above her reach
So why, she asked herself again, would she seek another life?
To cast the man she loved aside to be another's wife?

Goodbye is not forever, he had told her that before,
But in her heart she fumbled with the latch upon the door.
In answer to her silent pleas, love flooded through the gate
The only man she's truly loved was asking her to wait.

With heartfelt strength she vowed to him that she would wait with pride
And share the dreams they have for each, taking life in stride
For even though they're not as one, the love between them grows
And contentedness surrounds them as anticipation glows.
