It was terrific! We were supposed to jump at 13,000 feet but other, more experienced jumpers convinced the pilot to climb to 17,000. The air in the plane was so thin I began to lose my vision. But soon enough we were out in the open air! Suddenly I had more air than I could handle! It was soooo cold! There was no sensation of falling during the free-fall, because the wind is very fierce. Also, our altitude was so great that the ground seemed flat - I couldn't make out any objects. So I didn't get a thrill-rush until after the chute was open. After I pulled the rip cord, it was absolutely beautiful! Very peaceful. Also, since we were closer to the ground, I began to have a sense of how high we were. Dangling above the Earth by a few strings is a GREAT feeling! |
My brother Tony and me, exploring Cave Hill in the Shawnee National Forest near Carbondale, Illinois. It was a tough, athletic workout...I have a new respect for the art of caving! At the end, we were filthy, sweaty and exhausted...but it was an exhilarating experience! |
