An additional Slideshow of a number of my paintings
I've always thought of myself as an artist first. My goals as a painter are the expression of my concept of beauty, whether in nature, in a dream, or from my imagination. I often find that an image stays with me until I put brush to paper to bring it out, often working through the night until my vision is accomplished, or as near as I can approach. I feel that art should express the artist's inner beauty and passion to the world outside. Whether representational, abstract, or somewhere between, I view art as an emotional statement by the artist, to communicate on levels both above and below the conscious mind. I am a third generation native of Salt Lake City, a second generation artist, and the first watercolorist in my family. Watercolor has been my medium of choice since the 1980's.
My artistic education has been life-long, but I chose to begin raising a family at a young age, foregoing higher education in favor of family pursuits. I attended four years of community education classes in watercolor, have taken several watercolor workshops sponsored by the Utah Watercolor Society, and have continued to paint and study on my own on a regular basis.
In addition to my work in watercolor, from 1988 to 1993, I worked as a graphic artist for one of the Salt Lake area's major corporations. Later in the '90's I moved into the computer equipment field, but continued doing some graphic arts. Currently, though not working full-time in an artistic pursuit, I am the webmaster for the Utah Watercolor Society.
