For those of you that have been reading the diary, you already know that my Ghia was an eBay car. Well, the whole story is this:

I saw the car and desperately wanted it, but couldn't afford to pay the entire $500 all at once. I needed a couple of weeks to come up with the cash, so I didn't bid on the car. You don't bid on auctions you can't pay for, right? Wrong. Turns out that some guy in Kentucky bid on the car and couldn't pay for either, so the seller came back to me and offered to sell it me because I live in the same city. Well, I give him a $200 deposit and a promise for the other $300 a week later.

I emailed him yesterday letting him know that I would come by this weekend and drop off a cashier's check for the remaining amount and pick up the car. Here's the really bad news. He told the original bidder that because he couldn't pay for it, he was going to sell it to me and that made the Kentucky kid spring into action and come up with the money. He express mailed a check to the seller and it arrived the tenth day after the auction, as required. So, now the seller is obligated to give the car to the winning bidder and I'm out of a Ghia.

BUT, hope is not lost. I have a good friend named Adam that is restoring a Beetle. He needs a new engine and transmission for it and he has a friend that is restoring a Ghia. Okay, long story short... Ghia friend doesn't want the responsibility anymore and is giving Ghia to Adam. Adam only wants the engine and tranny and will give the rest of the car to me. So, I still have hope and might have a new project car after Christmas. I'll keep you posted.
