Jackson Browne oppened, and he was enjoyable -- played good music for right after a thunderstorm. I don't know why it fit. He also went down as the first opening act I've ever seen to do an encore.
Tom took quite sometime getting out on stage, and when he did it was to the sweet ass riff of "Runnin Down a Dream," my favorite Petty song. I went into this show only really wanting to hear that, and I was satisfied instantly.
The rest of the show never fell from the high bar the opening song set. They played every song I could possible want. They jammed on many songs, including classic ebow and organ work on "It's Good to be King," and more great jamming on all the other Wildflowers songs ("Let's roll another one" refrain on "You Don't Know How it Feels" delights the stoners).
Speaking of stoners, Tom appeared to be nicely ripped himself, and he and the band all seemed like they were having a great time. Apparently it was the last date of their tour, and they were certainly in top form.
My favorites -- previousl mentioned "It's Good to Be King," jammed out and modified "Don't Come Around Here No More," "Refugee," and the closing "American Girl." All was excellent; all on a whim.
