t's been a good day.
That's more than I've been able to say very often lately.
We had to be at our church at some crazy hour in order to prepare for
our Easter service, which came close to being an all-out extravaganza.
Musicians everywhere! Trumpets and trombones and flutes and drums
and singers -- it was like a visual aid to Psalm 150. It was a great
celebration, with some poignant words from our pastor -- I didn't even
mind being there for several hours.
We went home, and while we were trying to figure out our plans for the
day, my wife put out an Easter basket for each of us, with all kinds of
goodies -- Cadbury Creme Eggs, Rolos, 100 Grands, and much more.
We sat there like little kids, sampling the wares in our baskets, before
heading out the door to the Wild Animal Park.
Probably the most exciting thing to watch at the Animal Park were animals
that, in a sense, didn’t belong there, although you could make a case that
they were probably there first. In a secluded part of the Heart of Africa
exhibit, we saw a family throwing food (you know, the stuff that you pay
a quarter for in the vending machines) to a small black duck. The
duck would then swim away with the morsel, and place it in the beak of
his nestmate, who then would distribute it to several duck babies (chicks?
What does you call baby ducks, anyway? Duckies?....). The whole
thing was so adorable. I hope I can be as good a father as that duck
was.
After a too huge meal at Chili's (we all got the pitas, which are fantastic
-- not to mention cheap!), we came back to the apartment, and just sat
around talking and listening to whatever strange music we could come up
with (my mother found The W's rather groovy).
Overall, it was a great day. It's the first time in way too long
that I can honestly say that I was under no stress all day. No worries.
Hakuna Matata.
