Up The River

We're going up the river with
one objective:
find Kurtz.
If at the mouth of the River
we knew
what lay ahead,
Kurtz's voice would not
have been so intriguing.
So we head deeper into
this jungle
listening to its pervading whispers
conscious of its oppressive darkness.
Still we push ahead with our mission
Find Kurtz--
Find Kurtz
where he lies,
the center of the
Heart of Darkness
letting each plant,
each savage influence
his soul.
When we find him,
how do we not become him?
For in our journey,
haven't we seen the same
Horrors
as he?
