OCTOBER 2002 FILMS I'd be hard pressed to find a Tom Tykwer moment in HEAVEN. Tykwer suppresses his show-offy self and makes his best movie yet thanks to Krysztof Kieslowski's script and Cate Blanchett. [B] PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE is blustery but no follow-through. Anderson's most mannered movie yet, he funnels a previously untapped side to Adam Sandler to good effect. [B-] Tim Robbins doesn't even try, Mark Wahlberg is never believable and a patina of falseness accrues to Thandie Newton's repeated incredulity, though no fault of Newton's. Watching THE TRUTH ABOUT CHARLIE flounder and contort for the audience has all the charm of watching a catfish with its head cut off. [C] |
