Tribal Fear News has learned that Dynamix has tweaked bases in Tribes 2 to appeal to a wider audience of gamers. "Today's players are much more diverse than the stereotypical 16-to-24 year old male that most people think of when they hear the term 'gamer'," said Dave Georgeson, producer for Tribes 2. "Our goal is to be more responsive to the needs of all gamers, and provide a total experience." Bases in Tribes were the nexus for supporting a team's players, containing inventory stations, generators, and (depending on the game type) flags, switches, or objectives. In Tribes 2, bases include everything they did before, but now add a tribal daycare center. Many corporations today have daycare centers to better support their employees, and this benefit is not lost on Dynamix. "More and more parents are playing Tribes, and we want them to be able to capture that flag without worrying about Junior wandering into a fragfest," said Georgeson. "We've taken great care to make sure the little tribe-lings will be safe so their parents can play with carefree abandon," he continued. "Each center is completed shielded. Shields are powered by hidden, indestructable generators. Only members of the tribe whose base it is can enter the center, and regardless of server settings, team damage is disabled inside the shielding." Also, telescreens cover the center walls, playing nonstop Barney, Disney, and Pokemon videos. "To be honest, we're a bit worried about game balance," admitted Georgeson. "With all the cartoons and refreshments we have in there, some of the tribesmen and tribeswomen may spend time in the center instead of defending their flag."
