Tribes Show to Appear on PBS

Dynamix and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) today announced a new television show that will soon appear on the nation's 347 public television stations. Following on the 22-year success of the defining home improvement series "This Old House," the new "This Old Base" show will focus on the wildly popular computer game Tribes.

In a major coup, the original host and icon of home improvement, Bob Vila, returns to guide level designers through the tricks of the trade while creating maps for Tribes 2. "We'll show you construction tips, design considerations, and how-to demonstrations that'll get your project off the ground," said Vila. "As in housing projects, everything old in Tribes is new again."

Dave Georgeson, producer of Tribes and Tribes 2, continued, "Even with today's technology and new construction, people are nostalgic for the old days, trying to capture the feel of games gone by. We've already seen a map that recreates the Tribes 1 standard Rollercoaster. With Bob's help, you'll be able to take that Broadside map and restore it to a Tribes 2 luster. Or, to capture that old feel, convert Slapdash to an updated version of Dangerous Crossing."

Several projects are already in the works. An early episode deals with fixing up those old, unshielded base items, such as generators and sensors, to the newer Tribes 2 standards. Another show is dedicated to local building codes, such as converting your old inventory stations to the newer "choose first, then buy" model required by Tribes 2.

Vila, showing his familiarity with the community, remarked, "It's obvious that Tribers as a group are do-it-yourselfers. I mean, just look at the number of posts in the forums asking how to run the map editor!"
