Tribes 2 Expansion Pack Adds New Vehicle

The Dynamix development team is busy working on the Tribes 2 Expansion Pack, an add-on to the hit online team-oriented game. According to sources inside the company, the expansion pack will add new maps and missions, and the most eagerly anticipated feature, a new vehicle.

Dave Georgeson, producer of Tribes 2, provided some juicy details about this new vehicle. "Today, more and more couples are playing Tribes together, and we need a vehicle that can be versatile to their needs and yet appeal to both of them. Therefore, we've decided the new vehicle should be a Sport Utility Vehicle."

The SUV is a staple of modern American families, and Tribes 2 is poised to take advantage of this popular trend. "Today's gamers cover a wide variety of socioeconomic levels, but the overwhelming vehicle preference is for SUVs," said Georgeson. "We felt we needed a vehicle that all players could feel comfortable in, was practical yet sporty, and added to the gameplay."

The new "Serengeti" is a wheeled ground vehicle is designed to carry up to four players, with standard driver limitations (such as it cannot be driven by someone wearing Juggernaut armor). There is also room in the back cargo area for two packs. "It won't hold an Inventory station, but you can store any other packs in there and drive off," said Georgeson, "allowing a Scout armor to be much more versatile. It doesn't have any armament, but the cargo-pack ability really takes gameplay to a new level."

Test driving the new vehicle in a preview at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), gamer T4t3rH4t3r said, "This thing is so cool! I love being able to wear Assault armor and carry a couple of landspike turrets out to the middle of the map, then give the capper a ride home. And the back doors even have childproof locks for the clueless llamas!"
