The candle

in my heart

burned low.

Savage winds

of loneliness

tore the flame

threatening

it with dire

consequences,

until it

grew weary,

small and pale.

It had

no power now

to drive

away the dark.

Then, of a sudden,

the winds

ceased.

The flame,

in quiet

desperate

determination

struggled back,

driving away

the darkness,

revealing ..

You!

Standing there

you sheltered

the candle.

Gentle hands

surrounded it,

cupping it,

protecting it.

You smiled,

and in that

simple act

changed

my life.
