Antique Crazy Quilt Dated 1885

Recently sold on eBay for $2125

This description was given when the quilt was for sale.

This absolutely wonderful crazy quilt measures 55" square and has 16 blocks, bordered in a rich burgundy velvet. It is dated 1885 and finished 1886. The quilt has so many wonderful pieces - stuffed flowers, American flag, appliqued parasol, embroidered initials and words, and many, many beautiful needlework stitches. It is in excellent condition for its age - only a few deteriorated pieces, and those are not large. It was pointed out by an expert in textiles that it had been washed, giving it an overall rosy glow, which in my opinion does not detract from the appearance at all. At one time it had padding, which has been removed. Note the Fair Oaks and Chicago embroidered into one of the blocks. This crazy quilt is backed. The backing is in good condition. It has been apraised by two experts who agree it is a very beautiful quilt, wonderfully done. .

Thanks to the seller for allowing the use of the photos and description of this beautiful quilt.
