Crazy Quilt All That Glitters Swap
Coordinator: Barbara
I am borrowing heavily from Jane Weidman's Embellishment Swap criteria. Thanks, Jane. I will be out of town from June 19th to the 28th, so want to run this swap before I leave. Sorry for the tight timeframe, but just think how quickly you will have your new glitzy stuff!
Purpose: to share what shines from our stashes of goodies.
(Packrats always give something in return for what they take.)
Deadline for sign-up: May 15th
Deadline for mailing: June 1
E-mail me to sign-up. I have 14 names already, and will reply to each of the people who sign up with my snail mail address.
**********WHAT TO SEND*********WHAT TO SEND**********
These categories are guidelines. You may send your grandmother's 15 piece coffee service if you like (with plenty of postage, please.) Each bag should contain 4 of the following choices. I have given approximate amounts. Send double the amount of one choice, and then 2 others if you prefer. Or you can send 4 times the amount of one choice, in each bag. This should be fun. Try to create a bag you would be happy to receive yourself.
Thread-- about 5 yards, each different, of metallic, rayon, something spun along with metallic, shiny silk.
Fabric--three different scraps, no smaller than about 3" x 5" gold or siler brocade, lame, satin, shiny silk, prints with gold screened overprinting.
Ribbon-- 3 diffferent pieces about 12" to a yard depending on width, cost, rarity. Send silk, organza, ombres, satins , etc.
Charms-- 1 to 5 depending on size and value. Must be metal.
Beads-- Use your judgement, depending on size. 3 kinds, about 20 seed beads (please contain them in bead bag, on string, or in twist of paper.) and 1 to 5 of others depending on size. They mus be shiny-- could be metallic in any color, or at least partly gold or silver.
Buttons-- 2-10, depending on size and quality. Please no contemporary metal buttons with wiggly shanks. All shanks should be short so they don't droop when sewn.
Motifs and scraps-- appliques that are made of shiny material. Pieces of old jewelry (can be cut up from original form into its components with a metal snip.) Amount depends on size and complexity-- keep smaller than 1 1/2 " approximately, and include one to three.
Trim -- fringe, tassels, cord, braid, whatever you have. It can be a twist or blend of gold and a color, or other shiny threads. Gold flowers or leaves, for example. Your call for amount-- pieces should be 4" or so, at least.
Rhinestones-- Sew on only, please, whether pierced or set in something. Many of us don't use glue on our work.
Shisas-- the queens of gleam. You judge the amount you can spare.
These categories do overlap, and are only a guideline. You can send something from each, but to be fair remember to include enough. The total of what you send shoulld be what it would please you to receive. Sorry I can't be more specific, but e-mail me at Barkelsey@aol.com if you want to discuss whether you are enclosing enough in your baggies.
Just remember-- Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine...
Barbara who can't wait to see what arrives
