Ocean Swap #2 Guidelines

DEADLINES:

For signing up by emailing me. April 10, 1998

For mailing your packages to me. April 30, 1998

Packages should be put in the return mail by me around May 15, 1998

INDIVIDUAL BAGS CONTENTS:

A) Fabric a 12" x 12" square or two pieces 6" x 12". I have been told people don’t want smaller pieces than that.

B) Embellishments---a packet of 3 different kinds of embellishments in the ocean theme. Please make sure that you send the quanities listed for each type of embellishment at the minimum to make this fair to everyone.

C) Patterns for embellishments one or two patterns per packet. If you are unable to do this (newness to cq, etc) then include an extra embellishment per packet in its place.

EXPAINATION OF THE VARIOUS COMPONENTS:

Fabrics Fancy fabrics like silks, satins, velvets, brocade, moires, taffetas etc. They need to be something that follows the ocean theme. The colors tend to run in the teals, aquas, purples, blues, greens of ocean water. NO cottons or knit polyesters and only the very exceptional woven polyester. Natural fibers are the preference of most people.

Patterns

The idea of this catigory is to share ideas on embellishing the ocean cq’s, not a pattern for an actual project such as a purse, tea cozie, etc.

Some ideas would be diagrams for stitch combinations like we have been discussing on the list, drawings and stitch suggestions for ocean creatures, plants and flowers, anything else found in an ocean setting. Photocopies of ocean themed works you have done. Uses of some of the embellishments you enclosed.

Remember if you just can’t do this because you are new to cq, etc than you need to include 4 embellishment choices in your packets.

NOTE:

I need each person signed up for the swap to let me know what pattern they are including asap so I can make a list of what is being done so we don’t end up with bunches of the same things.

MAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

a. Each person is to mail up to 15 packages to me as discribed previously. Each packet does not have to be the same most people don’t go out and buy 15 of one item for their stash so variety is just fine. Just make sure that each packet has all the required ingredients in it.

b. Put a piece of paper on the outside of each packet with a "TO" section with my name and address in case the Post Office tears the bag open and a "FROM" section with your name and email address. People like to thank the senders plus if you find something you just have to get more of you know who to contact for the source. Please make sure to secure this to the outside of the packets so you don’t get your own packets back in the swap.

c. Get two of the large FREE Priorty Mail envelopes not the cardboard ones but the ones that are strong and feel like nylon (sort of anyway) and address one to me with the number of packets included in it in a circle on the outside and one addressed to yourself. You need to put a $3 stamp on each envelope---No metered mail as it expires---$3 covers up to 2 pounds so unless your packet is really heavy this should cover it.

d. INTERNATIONAL SWAPPERS: Instead of dealing with the hassle of the money differences just include some interesting fabric or embellishments that would correspond with the postage costs and I’ll pay for the postage.

e. Put the envelope addressed to yourself and your packets inside the envelope addressed to me, mail it and sit back and wait for the goodies to come back to you.

f. Email me at callalily@worldnet.att.net to let me know that your packet is on its way to me. I’ll let you know when I get it and when I send your package back to you.

The deadline for mailing the packages to me is April 30th so this allows us time to get stuff for the swap from mail order sources.
