CrazyQuilt Jewel Tone Fabric Swap
Coordinator: Christine Gilbreath
DEADLINE to submit your fabric: April 20th it should be in the mail!!
First of May swapped fabric will be returned to you!
Jane's overly simplistic (*VBG*) instructions will work here for the most part -- Any changes to it I have made.
1. Prepare 15 plastic baggies of Fabrics (see "Fabric List" below)
2. Put a slip of paper with YOUR name on the inside of each bag.
3. Tape MY name and address on the outside of each bag.
(Just in case the the envelope gets opened in the mail....)
4. Get 2 (two) mailers, about 10" x 13" Cardboard, Padded or Poly-Vinal(whatever that stuff is :)
5. Put YOUR address on one mailer and MY address on the other.
6. Put all *15* Fabric bags in MY mailer. Have the Post Office weigh BOTH my mailer and your mailer together. Put this amount of postage on BOTH mailers. Fold YOUR mailer and put it inside MY mailer with the goody bags.
7. Mail MY mailer. E-mail me at mailto:christyg@cwnet.com to let me know to expect it.
8. The deadline to mail your goodies is April 20th.
9. Wait for goodies to wend their way to YOUR door around the first of March -- after I've had a chance to receive all those envelopes, and get the stuff sorted!
Fabrics
(This info based on Sally's info for the Pastel Swap)
About Fabrics: Pick Fabric that is a nice Jewel Tone .. Ruby Red, Emerald Green, Aquamarine, Topaz, etc. You may exchange any "Fancy" fabric in this exchange. You are not limited to only one fabric or type of fabric because many of us are working from extensive scrap bags.
The preference is for natural fibers. However all-natural fabrics are sometimes difficult to find--for instance it hard to find a taffeta that is not 100% Acetate (And I personally dislike Acetate). And some wonderful fabrics have metallic threads and other "unnatural" parts. If you have information about the content of the fabric, please include it! If it is recycled from clothing please mark appropriately.
Fancy fabrics might include velvet, velveteen, silk of all weaves, satin, lace, brocade, very fine cotton lawn (a la Liberty), linen, fine wools, some 100% cotton upholstery / drapery, taffeta, lame, etc.
Preparing your fabrics for the swap: You may cut yardage or cut recycled fabrics in 9x12 rectangles. This size is large enough to use at least twice in a project, but not so large that you couldn't cut it from a piece of clothing if you were recycling. If you are buying yardage you should get 15 pieces of this size from 3/4 yard of 60" wide fabric.
Please include on the note with your name: The type of fabric and it's content (if known). Whether the fabric is washable (and if it's been washed.) Whether the fabric is new -- or a great re-sale find!
Thanks to both Sally and Jane for the work they put into the above information. Enough of these swaps get done, and we may just come up with a standard method of holding the swaps...
I'm looking forward to seeing what fabrics come in!
Christy
P.S. For the Newbies and others "(*VBG*)" stands for "Very Big Grin".
