Block Made by Julie Hocking
I am Julie Hocking. 48 years old, wife of Jim Baross, and mother to Kevin (10 years old) and JJ (7 years old). We live in San Diego, CA, where I have lived for most of my life. After being a stay-at-home mother for nearly 10 years, this spring I took a job with the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park, San Diego, as the person who registers school groups who wish to come to the museum. It's a part time job with perfect "mom" hours.
I discovered Crazy Quilting via silk ribbon embroidery. I was at the "I Love Needlework Fair" in Long Beach two years ago, when I saw the books of Judith Baker Montano, in a booth with wonderful hand dyed silk ribbons. I was hooked. And when I looked over Judith's Crazy Quilt Handbook, I loved it. I made a CQ pillow for my mom with photo transfer pictures of her three grandkids as one of my first projects.
Wanting to do more embellishing lead me to search out fine thread crochet pattern sources, for edgings. I also made a few crochet buttons, too. I love yard sales, and have found vintage lace, tatting, and buttons. I love a good scavenger hunt!
I have since made my chatelaine in crazy quilt, and was one of first projects up on Janet's Vintage Vogue page. I am participating in the tie swap, and look forward to the progressive vest.
