Nearly careening its way to the No. 1 spot was Dave Matthews Band's Crash, with debut-week figures just a hairline fracture or so below Hootie's impressive 259,000-unit count. (SoundScan estimates had the Matthews Band selling a surprising 1 percent fewer copies than the Blowfish.) These good-time nouveau-retro bands H.O.R.D.E.-ed most of the chart glory with their photo finish.
