"Story of the Eye" By Georges Batailles
------------------------------------
Beautifully written and demented. You have to stop every once in a while and have a cold shower, drink a couple of shots of whiskey or masturbate. It's one of those three reactions. You can't really get around them.
Capetown and Johannesburg, South Africa
------------------------------------
I'm from Johannesburg - it's more friendly but more violent than Capetown. Strangely, Capetown is more peaceful but less friendly.
The Beatles
------------------------------------
They made me dream of making music when I was 5. I stopped thinking about Little League. I was obsessed. The anthology is . . . interesting. I haven't bought it. There's something about it that rubs me in a strange way because one of them is missing. But it's their prerogative.
Soul Coughing
------------------------------------
I so admire what they do - I wish I was doing it. Not to say I could ever try and imitate. They just paint really great pictures for me. The song "Janine" at the end of Ruby Vroom rocks my world. He calls her, and she sings to him over the phone.
Jim Carrey
------------------------------------
In person he's just as he is - an incredibly animated man. But he's also generous, kind and cool. I left wishing I had another couple of hours to drink with him and get high. A lot of wisdom popped out of his mouth in a short time. That was strange.
Willie Nelson
------------------------------------
Willie's a radical thinker. I get psyched when people don't bend in their opinions.
"Confederacy of Dunces" By John Kennedy Toole
------------------------------------
The longest book I really enjoyed getting through. The only post-mortem Pulitzer Proze-winning novel that I know of. He offed himself in the 60's after he had written it. His mother found it.
My House Outside Charlottesville, Va.
------------------------------------
It's a converted wheat-flour mill. There's a river that runs by it and a dam - always the sound of thundering water. And it's hidden and quiet.
