This insect lives in a forest in the Uxbridge, Ontario Canada area---but I wonder if it is really native to these parts. It is brown in colour, with white dots around the edges of its body. The insect is not shy nor is it afraid of other creatures. It can both jump and fly. There is a peculiar brown and black triangle pattern on its back below its neck/head. When touched or accidentally harmed, it emits a stinky apple scent. It is approximately 3 cm in length. I am under the assumption that it is a bug and not a beetle, though I obviously am not sure...
