What is Microtonal
Toolkit?
Microtonal Toolkit
is a program designed to facilitate the playing of two well-known microtonal
scales on a MIDI instrument: the 19-tone and 24-tone (quarter-tone) scales.
It is based on an idea by José Evangelista (composition professor
at Université de Montréal) in which certain keys can play
more than one note depending on the velocity at which they are struck.
The advantage
of this system is that you can play the 19-tone and 24-tone microtonal
scales while retaining the usual key disposition of an everyday keyboard
or any other MIDI instrument.
For more information
on the idea behind Microtonal Toolkit, please visit José
Evangelista's site.
System Requirements:
- A 68k or PPC Macintosh
computer
- OMS (A free
midi-driver downloadable at www.opcode.com/dl/)
- A synthesizer/keyboard
capable of playing the 19-tone and/or the 24-tone microtonal scales
