Chapter 3 After speeding off from the school, Ryo's brother started to drive towards town. Ryo, who was in the back seat with me, was leaning over by his brother, whispering something. I wasn't paying attention due to the fact that I was still in shock from what happened at school. My heart was racing, and I breathed heavily. Ryo sat back against the back seat of the car as it came to a halt at a intersection. "Are you okay?" Ryo asked as he looked around my face, seeing if I was bruised or cut. He picked up a tissue from a box beside him and started to wipe my cheek. All I could do was stay still and be stiff. "I understand you are in shock and so am I." Ryo said softly and slowly, in a way of trying to clam me down. "I knew one of these days you wouldn't take it any more from us and finally do something about it. I just didn't expect this." I still couldn't move or speak from the incident. The only movement that I showed was my trembling in fear. I just stared at the seat infront of me and was off in my own world. Ryo was very worried about me, which made me truly believe that he cared for me. The car started to move again and at the same moembet, the drizzle turned into a downpour. The car turned and we began to go towards the outer side of town and not the downtown area. Ryo asked his brother to take us to the Star Cafe and his brother agreed. I slowly regained myself from the fiasco and I remember muttering something like, "What's going to happen to me?" Ryo quickly came to my aid after I muttered those words. "Naoko-san! Are you okay?" "What will happen to me?" I repeated sorrowfully as I hung my head. "What will happen to you?" question Ryo. "Nothing's going to happen to you." I raised mt head and looked at Ryo, almost breaking out into tears. "Nothing's going to happen to me?" Nout being able to hold in the tears any longer, I fell apart and cried. I held myslef against Ryo and dug my head into his shoulder. "I just blasted a person with lasers through my hands!" I cried into his shoulder which muffled me. "Why!? Why is this happening to me!?" Ryo moved my away from his shoulder and held me by mine. "Naoko-san, please calm down. Everything's going to be okay." "No it's not!" I screamed while I continued to cry. "I'm a freak of nature now! Every scientist in the world is going to put tests on me as if I was an alien or something!" By that time, the car came to a halt in the parking lot of the Star Cafe. Ryo picked up another tissue and began to clean my the tears of my face. He asked my to come with him and he ensured my safety from anyone that wanted to hurt me. I agreed, even though I was nervous and had no much of an idea of what to exactly do. I trusted Ryo that he would protect me and followed him. We piled out of the care into the rain. Ryo asked his brother if he wanted to join us. His brother declined the offer because he had other business to attend to. Ryo understood and his brother drove off. The left the parkling lot and we stood infront of the Star Cafe in the rain. Ryo took my my hand and felt that I was still trembling. He looked at and somehow I stopped trembling. I still don't know how he did it, but it did make me feel better. "I told you that you would be okay," Ryo said, making me feel very comfortable. We rushed into the Star Cafe before we became anymore soaked than we were. It was somewhat too late because when we ran into the cafe, a waitress walked by looking at us in a surprised manner. The place was almost empty, but that was most likely due to the fact that lunch was over and that it was the middle of the afternoon. Close to the entrance were some phones. Ryo told me that I should call my mother while he finds a table for us. He handed me some change and walked off. I stood by the phone, dripping, and looked at the change in my hand. I finally thought to myslef that Ryo knew something that I didn't. I had to find out, but it wasn't than; I had to call my mother. I put the change into the payphone and dialed. After three rings, my mother picked up. I heard the vaccum cleaner turn off, so I must've called her while she was cleaning the house. "Hi mom," I greeted. "Naoko! Where are you?" said my mom, who sounded worried. I looked around the cafe, seeing if I could find Ryo while I spoke to my mom, "Oh, I'm at the Star Cafe. Naohime-chan and I are suppose to meet some friends here to study fro the final exam." "This is sudden," said my mother who was unaware of this. "How long are you going to be?" my mother asked. "I'm not sure how long we'll be." I replied. "Okay." my mother sighed. "Do you have your house keys?" "Yes." "Alright. I'll be going to the store soon, so I might not be home when you get there." my mother said while what sounded to be her dusting. "You be careful getting home." "Yes, mom." She hung up and than I hung up. I sat by the phone shaking from being cold in the soaked clothes. I looked outside to see that the rain was coming down as hard as it was not too long ago. After that, I moved away from the payphone and began to search for the phone. I looked around the tables and over by the cashiers. Around the corner of the cashiers were some tables and over by those tables was Ryo. I walked over to him and sat down. "How are you feeling?" Ryo asked as I sat down across from him. "I'm scared, Ryo," I replied as calm as I could. "I am also cold," I giggled, trying to make myself feel better. "Yeah," Ryo chuckled. "We are two sponges here." Ryo leaned towards me on the table, "There's nothing to be scared of. No one is going to hurt you as long as no one knows. In other words, try to keep this as much of a secret as possible." "I know, but what about the students who saw it at school?" I asked him, sounding worried. "I am not sure, Naoko-san. The only thing I can tell you is, we have to wait." Ryo said, even though it sounded like he didn't want to tell me that. I sat there in silence with my head down and I thought about what I should do. At the same time, a waitress walked up and gave us a couple of menus and then walked away. I looked up and saw Ryo look over the menu. As he looked through the menu, he said, "Go ahead and get whatever you want. It's my treat." I told him that I wasn't hungry and I wasn't. Usually I would eat when I got home, but the whole unknown power thing has made me naucious. You told me that I am missing out on a free opportunity and that he might not be this nice again. I sighed and began to look over the menu. "See anything you like?" Ryo asked. I answered no and just stared at the menu, not really looking over what the cafe had. Mainly American type dishes were available since that what this cafe was mainly for. "Ryo, why are you trying to ignore what happened?" I asked nervously. "Avoid?" Ryo asked, pretending as if nothing went on. "I'm just trying to order something to eat, because I'm hungry. Come on. Smell the air. Doesn't it make you hungry?" The smell of food in the air did make me hungry we he mentioned it, but I denied that I was. He then began to tease me into ordering something. At last, the waitress came up and asked for our order. Ryo ordered a simple Turkey and Ham sandwich. The waitress than asked for my order. I didn't know what to do, so I just asked for what Ryo ordered. "Anything to drink?" the waitress added. "No thank you," said Ryo, "I think I have enough water on me to fill the glass." he added, laughing. "And you, ma'am?" the waitress asked me. I asked if she had anything warm to drink. Being close to summer and all, they were most likely not going to carry anything that was warm, except coffee, and I am not much of a coffee fan. The waitress told me that all they did was have coffee (it figured), but she would check if they had any hot chocolate. "Would you like some hot chocolate if we have any in the back room?" the waitress asked. "Yes, please." I said, being thankful. The waitress walked off and the two of us sat at the table in a small time of silence. The both of were shivering from being wet and cold. The air conditioning in the building wasn't really helping any. Ryo turned his head away from the table and sneezed. "I must be catching a cold." he said. I agreed and we sat in silence again. Ryo started to twindle his fingers on the table to small rythem of a song that I knew. I sat thinking over what the media would be like when they found out. Would they bug my parents, interview my friends with obnoxious questions or just go wherever I go? I decided to ask Ryo on this situation. "Ryo." I began. Ryo stopped his twindling and look at me, "Yeah, Naoko-san?" "Do you think the media is going to be all over this?" "The media?" Ryo said. "I can't really lie to you, but this is the media we are talking about. They are going to be all over this like sharks after a piece of bloody meat." I hung my head when he said that. "But don't worry." he continued. "It's like any other form of news. It will only last a while and than you will mean nothing to them." I didn't know whether to feel insulted or happy about what he said. Ryo was right. If I could last a couple of weeks from the media before going mad, it'll be all over. Ryo told me not to worry about the current situation. He said I should try to get it off my mind. After he said that, a beeping noise started to commence. Ryo lifted a beeper from his belt and looked at it. After that, he pressed a button on it that stopped the beeping and than placed back on his belt. "I'm sorry Naoko-san." Ryo apologized. "I have to go. My dad's paging me. He must need help down at the office." "How are you going to get there?" I asked "It's not that far from here. It's somewhat close to center of downtown. Do you want to come? My dad can give you ride home when we are done." "That's okay. I'll walk home soon." I told him. "Alright" he said. "I'll pay for the food right now." He bowed and went to the counter. He was in a such a hurry. I didn't get to thank him and he didn't even bother waiting for his change from the cashier. Soon after, the waitress came with our meals. She asked where my friend went. I told her what happened, so she asked if she should take back his dish and deduct it from the bill. I decided to keep it, thinking I might have room in my stomach to eat it for myself. "You're in luck. We did have some hot chocolate in the back." the waitress informed me. "Here you go." She put the drink next to my sandwich and I thanked her. She left and I sat, now staring at my food. I took a sip from my hot chocolate and stared out the window. I watched the cars drive back and forth through the intersection. People with umbrellas or newspapers over their heads would cross the street when it was their turn. I stared for a few minutes and through that time, I would just think of different outcomes of the my situation. After a while of staring and sipping my drink, I heard a small voice speak to me. "Excuse me." I turned to see who was talking to me and to my side was a small kid who was slightly taller than the table, but had the weirdest hair-style that I have ever scene. His hair was in triangular blocks and not one bit of it seemed to have a curve in it. "May I help you?" I asked him kindly. "May I join?" I became puzzled by this. Who was this kid and why does he want to sit with me? I wasn't sure if he was some kind of prankster or just someone who was lost. Being the nice self that I am, I let him join me. He hopped onto the seat where Ryo was sitting. He looked at the sandwich and asked if anyone else was with me. "No." I told him. "There was someone with me, but he had to rush off. If you want the sandwich, go ahead. Free of charge." "Thank you very much," the boy said. "I haven't had anything to eat since my journey." "Journey?" I asked. "What do you mean by that?" "I've come from very far to find you Mitsuishi Naoko." the boy told me as he munched on Ryo's sandwich. I became shocked when he said my name. Knowing nothing about this kid, I became somewhat scared. I slowly began to eat my sandwich while staring at him. "I am Yosono Fumei from the planet Graikyan." he said, sounding very serious. "I was sent here to find you. We need you to save this planet before it is destroyed like ours." I tried to hold myself from breaking out from laughing, but I couldn't do it. I busted out laughing, "You want me to save the world!?" When I laughed, I accidently spitted my food all over the table and all over Fumei. I covered my mouth and snickered, even though it was rude of me. Fumei wiped the food off of him and leaned twords me. "This is no joke, Naoko!" he exclaimed. "I need you to help our people from enslavement or else your planet will be the same!" "Sure, sure, kid." I laughed "You can find someone else to do this. I've got to be getting home." I stood up and told him the food was all paid for. I began to walk off and he called for me stop. I didn't believe him because I just saw Fumei as a kid. I left the Star Cafe and began to run home, becoming even more soaked. As I ran off, I saw Fumei over my shoulder standing at the entrance to the cafe.
