Neo Nazis Mark Hitler’s Birthday German Minds Hitler’s Birthday -- 1889/04/20. Sunday, 97/04/20, over 200 Germans publicly celebrated Hitler’s Birthday and were “detained” . 73 of which were arrested for singing “banned German Military songs,” and 13 others for damaging a Turkish-run fast food place. I don’t claim to know a lot about history. I do know that many great minds have claimed that Hitler was a master strategist, a great motivater, an insane dictator, and the Anti-Christ. Whatever the claims are, he was a man of history. A mark upon the history of earth. He was also a German. (I know, he was Austrian - not really German. But that’s like me saying I’m Californian - not really American. So please don’t write to me over that.) Which brings me to my perspective. The world watches Germany. 200 people “detained” and 86 arrested over a dozen different cities scattered across half a country doesn’t get much news print these days. Except Germany. Except Hitler’s birthday. What is it that makes the world so nervous? Two world wars? Specters of genocide? How many countries are worried about Germany’s reunification? How many of the worlds leaders secretly wish for the return of the wall? How many times in one century can one country rise from poverty to a world power? Economically? Militarily? Sociologically? Scientifically? Is it the German leaders we watch so cautiously or the German people? What makes the German people so different than the French or the Americans or the Nigerians? So different that every major government in the world watches and analyzes German society. I know that German technology from the 1930’s even the 1890’s is still being examined and developed today. That in many areas the Germans made more advancements in the sciences in 10 years than we’ve made in 50. I know that historically, Germany has come back from economical ruin three times in the last 100 years to be a standard in world currency. It’s not the German leadership that causes this to happen. Leaders only direct and dictate, they don’t make things happen. It’s the German people that do things. Of all the great minds in the last 300 years, how many were German. Ever think about that. What percentage belongs to Germany and of that what is the ratio to the German population compared to the rest of the world? I don’t know the answer here. But if I think of the 5 brightest intellects in history over the last 300 years, three are German. Over the last 2000 years (not counting religious icons), 2 are German. Where am I going? Are Germans a superior race? Is this the one thing that Hitler was right about? Is this the secret that keeps the worlds leaders cautiously watching Germany? Is the German genetic code different? Is that difference better? Is there any other race of people that have contributed more , for better or worse, to the world as we know it today? Scary thought. At least it is for me. “We are all equal, regardless of race, creed, or color of skin” that’s what I was taught and that’s what I believe. But I can imagine that it is not true. Science tells me that yes, genetically different races are distinct. That’s what gives us color, height, shape of nose and eye. Irish red, Swedish blonde, Asian eyes. What about intellect, drive, ambition, or the ability to conceptualize? I can’t imagine why we watch the Germans so closely.As Always - your comments and feed back are welcome.
