“Glitter” My trendy attempt To be an original Spoke out before I even thought I guess in all my lies I spoke some truth And a shade of grey is all I got. Floating down a stream I was trying to stand out My unoriginal attempt to be original Finding a common ground Through a common sin Standing together to take a fall We built our friendship Out of paper Sprinkled with glitter We called it silver. I had to break away.. In hopes you’d understand My desperate try To know that world I sold my soul But when I found my way And it all disappeared I knew I had to let it go My heart was dying As I just lived on I knew someday something would give I turned to who I hurt the most And He was always willing to forgive But we built our friendship Out of paper Sprinkled with glitter We called it silver But it wouldn’t hold Under pressure.. I had to break away.. In hopes you would too. I had to come back To what I knew was true. -Charity Matheson 1998
