"design" could be such a description in painting. Colours are really intoxicating, very rich purples, and pinks that capture the eye. Black border is very oppressive - doesn't allow the eye to wander away from the centre. The colours within (trapped in bubbles - slivers of the self, perhaps) struggling against the purple and pink but without success. Real vortex, maelstrom , hmmm...eye of a tornado, swirling around. Both eye of beholder and colours within trapped and consumed by the purples and pinks.
If I stare at it long enough it feels as if I'm about to fall into the painting - kind of frightening but also very hypnotic - can't struggle against it because it kind of overcomes you; sort of lulls you into it. I'd say that the colours within the bubbles are not subsumed by the purples and pinks. They remain distinct, part of the whole composition but after the consumption they are still distinct qualities. Colours in bubbles are optimistic, hopeful and trusting. Yeah, I'd say the colours within are positive - they are drawn towards the centre (psyche falling into itself - overlapping of emotion) BUT they are distinct, vital and spirited . They retain their identity (psyche comes together , embrace differences within the mind). I think painting indicates ongoing process but an evolving, dynamic interaction of forces - colours are not static and the red in the centre embraces all the other colours - for me red is strength, love, courage...
