End of Innocence
Shattered Trust
The pieces lay scattered on the floor,
Next to discarded
And broken Promises.
Empty words of warmth and
Affection once filled the ears.
Disbelieving, the mind's eye
Plays pictures of better years.
Letters written,
Replies never sent.
The icy dagger, Indifference,
Pierces the Soul.
The heart is cloaked with darkness
And surrounded by doubt and unnamed fears,
While displaced Hope
Is borne along by Tears.
Love is somehow lost
And Happiness seldom appears.
There is a woeful end
When one loses those considered friends.
