A Girl like That

I knew a girl with glass fire in her eyes,
and a hiding veil on her soul.
She'd smile, cold, and say " life gets easier when
you realize heaven and hell are only places in the mind."

She said it came to her while sitting
Numb in the blue-black, pouring, rain:
"All our houses of cards eventually fall away,
so perhaps its best to bring your own fan."

Watching her count the ravens and the sorrows,
She was the type of girl you could picture
Drinking life's pains away, but she said
"There are more creative ways to ruin a life."

"I've been reaching out for what I can't have
all my life," She said. "But that's what drives
you on. The pain's still yours when happiness is gone."
She always drew thick black lines between theirs and mine.

Last time I saw her she said, " I've sat here and tried to give
for so long. I can't do it anymore. Now I'm going to learn to take."
I knew a girl like that.
Yeah, I know a girl like that.
