we need your help!! don lewis, the owner of wildlife on easy street, has been missing for several months now, and we need your help in finding him!
in addition to the exotic cats that we have, there are about twenty domestic cats roaming around the property, and serveral other kinds of animals: biturongs, civets, lemurs, prevost squirrells, gopher tortises, birds, pygmy goats, and llamas.
Easy Street was started about five years ago when don and carole lewis bought some llamas to greenbelt the 40 plus acres that they live on. at a wild life auction, they saw a "bobkitten" for sale. never realizing before that bobcats could be domesticaed, carole decided right then that she needed to have one of those beautiful animals. they found a place which was selling bobcat and lynx kittens up north, and they drove to pick up four lynx and two bobcat cubs. when they arrived, they saw that the place was a fur farm. they witnessed how poorly the animals were treated; being kept in cages too small to move about, being nearly starved to death, and often beaten, and only kept alive long enough to grow to the size where they would be slaughtered to make fur coats. the lewis's ended up buying every cat that the place had, 56 kittens in all. since then, wildlife on easy street has dedicated itself to protecting endangered species, giving abandoned and abused animals a place to retire, and rehabilitating animals who are injured in the wild.
we always accept donations (these are tax deductible, by the way) in any dollar ammount. the money goes directly to the cats; feeding, keeping up their cat-a-tats, and veterinary bills (for sickness and yearly vaccinations). the people who work there are volunteers, we never take money from the donations for our own use (though tips for tours are greatly appreciated!). please click here if you want more info or are interested in contributing!
we do give tours of the sanctuary. please click here for directions and more information.
