The Ring-Tailed Lemur is a diurnal primate that lives in the dry forests and bush of south and southwestern Madagascar. They were previously considered not threatened, but recent reports suggest this may no longer be true. It is of medium-size and spends most of its time on the ground than any of the other Lemurs. It can be found in groups, containing several adults, both female and male, of up to 24 members.

Its diet consist of fruits, leaves, flowers, bark, and sap from at least 34 different species of plants, but especially from the kily tree. Studies have shown that the amount of time Lemurs spend eating a particular type of food varied between seasons and years.

During the mating season, aggression increases between the male Lemurs, which involves "spat call" vocalizations and "stink fights" involving their tail and forearm glands, which secrete a strong-smelling substance. After a gestation period of 120-136 days, the female gives birth to one to two young. The young are suckled for about six months.

The weight of the Ring-Tailed Lemur can be between five and seven pounds, tail length up to 20 inches and head and body up to 17 inches.
