Alcatraz is more than a prison converted into a place of learning. It has become a legend. Almost 30 movies have been filmed about Alcatraz, attracting such stars as Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage, Kevin Bacon, and Christian Slater. The aura surrounding Alcatraz is one of strength and invulnerability. It is those qualities that we offer our students.
We believe that the best criminal is one who turns to crime in order to better his or herself through either monetary gain or through the expression of their inner selves. We believe that the distinction between what society calls "criminal" and what they call "normal" is completely arbitrary and oppresses those people who happen to have been born with different values.
ASU incorporates the newly rennovated structures of the well-know Alcatraz State Penetentiary, where some of our nation's greatest criminals spent time. For a more in depth study of the history of this national monuments, see the National Park Service's site.
Apart its cultural and historical significance, ASU's main campus in the center of San Francisco Bay offers a breathtaking view of both Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline. The campus is only a short ferry ride to the heart of bustling San Francisco.
We expect the best from both ourselves and our students, and it is our driving ambition to make you the very best lawbreaker you can be.
