Canyon Blues My story is how far your heart will run away from fear of love my hands covering a blank mask of fright and I stand on the rim watching a lone eagle following the wind looking for the remains of my past let's walk the tightrope across a canyon of fear fate's just a river carving your life your story is that of the eagle following the wind down to river disappearing from sight as you disappeared from my life like a shadow at dusk on the distant buttes in the echo of a coyote's cry This story is an echo of my past sitting like a frozen clock hanging on the wall fate and fear keeping me together like frozen gears and cogs and the dust on the wings of an eagle watching me from above blesses me like a Kachina and giving me hope walk the invisible bridge across a canyon of fear Pain's just a river carving your life my story is locked away from you a secret between me and the earth and the eagle above I stand looking out at the mural of the canyon a picture perfect view but only on the outside Me. A picture perfect view but only on the outside Deep down we hurt and we wait for the river to wash the pain away. let's walk the tightrope across a canyon into the night and the future dries the river carving your life Our story is over yet it remains like a snakebite to the heart and finally we take the dive together neither willing to let go and we see the river below us like a mirror waiting to be broken
