Star Light Star Bright

Smiling faces
Shine so bright
Staring blindly into the night
A million tiny friends
Sending winks of encouragement

Search the skies
Find the secrets
The stars can tell
Gamma rays
Falling in flickers for fire
Penetrate the earth’s shell
While quakes of reality
Shatter my soul
Destroying what innocence
Is left of my youth
Leaving me alone
To rebuild
Stronger walls
Built
By experience
Fortifying what’s left
Of this fragile innocence

Leaving me to quiet
That frightened child
Sobbing in my mind
Wailing in my heart
Crying for the past

The fall of the tears
I can taste in my mind
As I hear the rhythm
Of the lost and frightened
Voice of my childhood
I look at the sky
And hear the call
Of the rhythmical stars.
