Shipping News, Annie Proulx (Charles Scribner's Sons, 1993) ****

This wonderful novel won the Pulitzer Prize in 1994. The setting is a small coastal town in Newfoundland; the characters are marvelous! There's adventure and intrigue, but the real fun is meeting the people.
