This park is 4th largest urban park in the 23 wards of Tokyo. It is divided into a forest area and open area with athletics ground and an outdoor stage. This parkland was once a military parade ground. After the war, it became Washington Heights, a housing site for the U.S.A force. Then, it changed to the Tokyo Olympic village and later became a park. The trees which were still small at the time of opening park have now beautifully grown and constitute a verdant forest with the neighboring Meiji Shrine. In May, 1990, The watery scenery facilities, including the 3 fountains which height are from 15 meter to 30 meter, and a water corridor were completed. Then, it became a park where it was blessed with "water and green". |
