The second, more spontanious element is the expressive mark. Here there's no right or wrong as there is with the figure. I fall into a rhythm of seeing and reacting in an almost automatic fashion. I rely on the in-built guide of pleasing my eye. Without asking myself in words, I'm seeking answers to, "what should I see here? what does this need? how much?" and execute marks that resolve the image in some way.
