Teaching Related Professional Experience

2002 Student Teaching. Coconino High School, Flagstaff, AZ. Prepared lesson plans and taught discipline-based art education curriculum for grades 9-12 for High School Art class and Jewelry/Metals class; presented lessons and facilitated learning; prepared and lead small group discussions; evaluated student progress and conferred with individual students; assisted in presentation of student artwork in local art shows; attended faculty, site council, ELL committee, and Native American Club meetings; assisted with ordering/purchasing art materials; created bulletin boards pertinent to each current lesson. Presented a web-based lesson on art history and museums.

2001 Teaching Practicum, I-STEP Program. Coconino High School, Flagstaff, AZ. Assisted teacher with classroom teaching in Mixed Media and High School Art classes; developed a two-week calligraphy and watercolor unit for High School Art class; provided individualized instruction for a behavior disorder student.

Commercial Art Related Professional Experience

1995-1996 Graphic Artist/Camera Technician. Gerber Industries, Scottsdale, Arizona. Operated STAT camera; layout, typesetting and paste-up of art for silk-screening process; experienced with Mac computer system using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Quark software programs to scan in customer art, recreate artwork and typeset copy; used Imagesetter system to output computer generated art to film.

1989-1992 Graphic Artist. Dove Specialty Products, subsidiary of Plaid Enterprises, Doraville, Georgia. Designed layout, spec type, paste-up, proofreading, camera and photopolymer plate production for product labels and wallpaper borders; designed wallborders within clients' guidelines and specifications; corresponded with suppliers; ordered materials. Updated Art Department Manual when new darkroom and platemaking equipment was acquired; reorganized filing system; trained new employees.

1986-1989 Art Department Manager. Covington Newspaper Co., Inc., Covington, Georgia. Layout and design, paste-up and proofreading of all retail and classified display advertisements; STAT camera work including half-tone enlargements and reductions of photos used in the Covington News and Multi-County Star; ordered all materials for paste-up and camera; supervised art assistant; illustrated editorial material and ads.
