Peace! We are the hip hop duo known as The Mighty Mc's. We are, the self-procalaimed "Ultimate B-Boy" Dynamite "J" & "The Enigamtic Rap Fanatic" MAGE! The Mighty Mc's started up as a duo in 1983. They knew each other for a few years before they joined forces, but didn't know that the other was involved in hip hop. Their paths crossed when Dynamite "J" & GrandManager "J" asked Mage to join Dynamite "J"'s B-Boy group The Soul Patrol. At the time, the members were Dynamite "J"'s best friend Kid Speed, MAGE's cousin Poppin "T" , Sir Jazz, Jazzy "J", and Rockin "T"! Original members of the crew included Vert Jefferson, & Chris Christiansan! Dynamite "J" gave MAGE the name MR. Groove, because a popper and locker, that was his go-off song Mr. Groove, by One-Way.
While The Soul Patrol was going on, Mage had a cousin by the name of "Fattymoe"a.k.a. Dj Slice, who had the base equipment for dj-ing, and song production. So MAGE asked Dynamite "J" to start an Mc crew, and Kid Speed, and James Wheeler from The Master Breakers came along for the ride. MAGE had already started a duo with Poppin' "T" previously before.
The Mighty Mc's experimented with alot of styles and ideas like everyone did at that time including one person on the drum machine, one on the keyboard, one on the turntable, and one or two people Mc'ing (all at once), and then changing positions and taking turns during the course of one song. With no room in Dj Slices's bedroom, you can imagine how many step on toes, and elbows were given while trying to move around, and if you are from back in the day, (and even right now) you know what i'm talking about.
The Mighty Mc's are very humble individuals, but like some other b-boys, they feel that they were ahead of their time. Mage will never forget when his crew laughed in 1985 he suggested that they sample More Bounce To The Ounce by Zapp. They said that it was "too slow", and many people outside of his crew thought that he was "wierd" when he rapped off-beat in 1984, saying that he was wack, and after returning from the military in 1987, he was rapping the same way and people accused him of biting Rakim and Big Daddy Kane when he didn't even know who they were, because he was in the jungles of Korea. They said Dynamite "J" was wack for using "too big of words" in 1984, and for rapping with a "straight" delivery as people changed their styles with the diggedty-diggedty, hollering, raspy, ect.. 1
