It's Official!
The "father" of hip hop Dj Kool Herc, Afrika Bambataa, & The Universal Zulu Nation, have joined forces with KRS-1 and The Temple Of Hip Hop to "clearly define what "HIP HOP" is!"
What does this mean? It means that if you ain't coming correct, the hip hop community will sue all the phony-ass suckers who have been fakin' the funk, and claimin' they are hip hop! With the laws of hip hop now defined, we have proof in black and white about what hip hop is, and how it is portrayed in the media.
Does anyone remember when Mary J. Blige first came out, she was billed as "The Queen of Hip Hop?" That was a total disrespect to people like Queen Latifah, Sha-Rock, Roxxane Shante, Sparky D, and others who have been laying it down for years. Aparently someone corrected her peoples, and it was changed to "The Queen of Hip Hop R&B!" What in the hell is "hip hop R&B?" That category was created specifically for her, because there was really no one out at that time singing R&B over hip hop tracks!
Here's a scenario about the art of b-boying which is commercially known as "breakdancing." One of the stories of how b-boying became now as breakdancing was when the b-boys were on the floor breaking, a reporter asked, "who are those guys?" and someone replied, "those are breakers." The reporter asked, "what are they doing?" and the person replied, "they are breakdancing." So the reporter reported on this new phenomenon as breakdancing instead of b-boying! If someone who is into Kung Fu practices the "crane" style, then they are a Kung Fu practitioner who does the "crane" style. But, just imagine someone reporting this form of martial arts as "crane fighting", and not Kung -Fu! The martial Arts community would be outraged, and they would have it corrected. But The hip hop communtiy has let it slide by, until now. 1
