Fable of a Friend

Once upon a time,
Seems so long ago,
In a place very close,
A place we all know.

There lived a man
With his heart on his sleeve
To whom friendship I gave
And from, friendship received.

I thought we'd be friends
All our lives long;
But it's when you're comfortable
That things will go wrong.

I lost him to a her
(To get to the core of the story).
He put her on a pedestal
And worshipped her glory.

Around that pedestal
Revolved his whole life.
They talked of white fences
And making her his wife.

He might well've been dead
And all I see of him, a ghost.
A fond reminder of a time,
The time together, I miss most.

I want him to be happy,
He happy with she;
But when worrying of happiness,
No one worries for me.

If I am the villain
For missing my friend,
Then the villain I'll be
Until my days end.

So there you have it,
My tale of woe
That began once upon a time,
It seems so long ago.
