IN SAN MIGUEL

Today my taxi rode behind a life-sized Christ on a cross,

the top of the cross propped on the cab of a pick-up truck.

Up and down the cobblestone streets we followed Christ.

It was a glorious day. Christ lying on his back in the sun

like any gringo tourist out for a tan and a joy ride.
