Doing someone's portrait can be as intimate
as having sex with them. There is all this
tension and yet there is a collaboration of sorts.
I have to coax, cajole, woo and encourage.
Sometimes I'm able to be sweet and gentle,
other times I have to be, what I consider,
harsh and demanding. It takes a great
deal out of me but, more often than not,
I'm left with so much more.
