One of the true oddities of Ditko's Marvel
career, since this pin-up was published over a year after Ditko left Marvel!
Marvel was producing a wave of reprint books by 1966, cashing in on material for
which Marvel had already paid the likes of Ditko and Kirby. Of course, Marvel
was not paying them reprint royalties. With a cover date of July '66, Ditko
had done his last work for Marvel on Amazing Spider-Man #38 and Strange Tales #146.
Imagine to my surprise when I find an original pin-up in the reprint book
MARVEL COLLECTORS' ITEM CLASSICS #10 from Aug '67! Marvel went pin-up happy in
1965, and the best guess is this latter-day looking Dr. Strange was an inventory
piece that had been shelved. I cannot find the original source for this one,
and therefore must claim it to be the original. What a find!
