MINI REVIEW OF QUESTAR #2 DITKO LOOKED UP; Mid '98
by Blake Bell
QUESTAR #2 (published by William G. Wilson, Jr.) contains the
Ditko story ''The Destruction Agent'' from the Summer of '78.
It is six pages, B&W magazine format, on glossy paper, and
is top of the line Ditko for this period!
There are shades of his objectivist theories in
the pre-dominantly Science Fiction story-line.
As usual, the hero
is cast out for declaring there is a traitor in the
midst. He then battles back to unmask the real
traitors who, in a-typical comic-book fashion, meet
their demise in accordance with their actions.
AKA they ain't saved by the hero (at least this time, the
hero doesn't know the "evil" ones are going to get
aced, so he can hardly be blamed for ignoring their
plight, unlike that COMIC CRUSADER STORYBOOK ending).
The artwork is excellent. The costume designs of
the villian (SPAGO!) look fabulously menacing and
Ditko gets to go nuts drawing the alien villians and
spaceships. His attention to detail here is far greater
than his mainstream work of the same period (did he
really just care MORE from this fandom type of work?).
