SECRET CITY SAGA
The last universe that Jack Kirby created was The Secret City Saga Universe. Created by Jack
Kirby, developed and written by Roy Thomas, Topps Comics was the publisher for this universe
that brought together many of the great comic creators of the '60s back into one line.
It alll started in Issue #0 and sprang off into 4 introductory issues; two of which featured
Ditko artwork. CAPTAIN GLORY #1 (Apr '93), the main hero of the universe, re-united Thomas as
writer and Ditko as artist for 28 pages with Thomas reminiscing fondly about Ditko and
his co-workers from the '60s in the ''Giants In The Earth'' two-page text piece at the end of
the book. SATAN'S SIX must be regarded as special as it featured the last Kirby/Ditko
collaboration ever. Kirby penciled 8 pages of the book with Ditko inking page 13. Terry Austin,
Frank Miller, Mike Royer and Joe Sinnott inked the other pages of the book, written by Tony
'Rock Me' Isabella. The end of the comic featured a four-pager written and drawn by Batton
Lash, who in the text piece on the 2nd-last page cites Ditko as an influence, with inks by
Ditko (although you'd swear it is Ditko's pencils). From these introductory four, the series
split into two books : Satan's Six #2-4 and Secret City Saga #1-4 (the splash page to #1
being presented here); the latter of which all featured 28 pages of Ditko pencils and inks.
Issue #4 even came with a trading card inked by John Byrne. Perhaps the series was foreshadowing
current events as it had U.S. President Bill Clinton being taken over by aliens.
