DITKO & ROBIN SNYDER
Robin Snyder was a fan of Ditko, dating back to the 1970s. Snyder made his way up
the comic-book ranks to writer, editor and finally publisher. In 1985, Snyder put
together THE DITKO COLLECTION, a reprint collection of Mr.A. stories from
'67-'73. Snyder also edited Ditko's contributions to the company, Renegade, featuring
Ditko works in titles such as Ditko's World and Revolver.
In January
of 1989, Ditko and Snyder began to publish ''packages''. They were voluminous trade paper-backs
devoted exclusively to Ditko works. The first in the series was the image to your left,
called The Ditko Package, an 80 page volume of new and revised material. Other volumes
followed, including THE MOCKER, from 1990, with over 100
pages of new material); THE DITKO PUBLIC SERVICE PACKAGE,
from 1991, with 112 pages of all-new material); as well as two volumes of material featuring
the hero Ditko created called STATIC. The first volume featured reprints of Chapters 1-5, from
material strewn over many books, but the second volume
featured STATIC : CHAPTERS #6-14,
with over 100 pages of all-new Ditko. and is the hardest of all the ''packages'' to find.
Snyder has also produced reprint volumes of older Ditko work. In 1990, under the Eclipse
banner, Snyder produced a black and white TPB of Ditko's TALES OF THE MYSTERIOUS
TRAVELER run from the 1950s. Again, on his own, Snyder published
THE LONELY ONE, reprinting Ditko's Charlton work on the movie
character Konga. Another fantastic volume was the Out Of This World TPB,
featuring over 60 pages of '50s Ditko world from the same Charlton title from 1957-59. Snyder
also produces an on-going magazine called The Comics (formerly known as The History
Of Comics) which has included Ditko-written essays as well as original Ditko artwork and
stories. Today, the collaboration continues, as January 1999 unleashes the latest
THE 160-PAGE DITKO PACKAGE, which will feature 160 pages of
all-new Ditko material! There is little doubt Stan Lee, Joe Gill and Steve Ditko produced
many great collaborations, but no one else has done more to bring Ditko to the world than
Ditko's chief collaborator, Robin Snyder.
