We jest, of course, when we speak about everybody's favourite Aunt; May
Parker. She first graced the pages of the first Spider-Man Story in
Amazing Fantasy #15 (Sep '62), but earlier visual versions of her exist
in Marvel's pre-hero catalog, but did you know a DEAD ringer for May
Parker existed LONG before those listed in Overstreet, and not at Marvel,
but at Charlton? On your left is three panels from Charlton's
OUT OF THIS WORLD #6 (Nov '57).
One can clearly see that THIS is the clear prototype, visually-speaking
for Aunt May. The face, the hair, but especially the bob of hair at the
back, all points to this being the earliest appearance of the Aunt May
visual template in a Ditko comic (her is name is even 'MArY'!). On your
right are panels from
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANN. #1 (1964),
for comparison. I have yet to find an earlier Aunt May 'proto-type'...
