Dr. Strange may have made his first appearance in STRANGE TALES #110 (Jul '63), but clearly,
his astral form debuted much earlier, in OUT OF THIS WORLD #7 (Feb '58)
for Charlton. Lee may have been writing the dialogue for the first
Dr. Strange tale, but he must have been taking cues from Ditko's
previous work on a man's 'spirit self'. In the Charlton book, it reads
"leave his earthbound shell" and "he had walked through the wall",
while in the Dr. Strange tale, it reads similar, "leaves his motionless
body" and "it drifts effortlessly, through the building wall". Perhaps
Lee was telling the truth when, in a letter to the COMIC READER #16 (Feb '63),
he states, "We have a new character...named Dr. Strange...twas Steve's idea".
