Electro is another classic villain from Ditko's famous rogue gallery,
but his origins can be traced back to an earlier source, as well. On
your right is the famous scene from
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #9 (Feb '64) illustrating Electro's origin. On
your left is a scene from almost four years earlier. It is from Charlton's
STRANGE SUSPENSE STORIES #48
(Jul '60) featuring the story entitled ''The Human Powerhouse''. And what
a powerhouse he is, as he becomes embued with the powers of ELECTRICITY.
As you can clearly see, he is able to throw around bolts of electricity,
just like Electro is doing in the page to your right. Stan Lee says ''We
need a new villain for Spider-Man, Steve; something ELECTRIFYING!'' Steve,
thinking back a few years, says ''I have just the idea!'' and Electro is
born. Truth or fiction? Look below, and be the judge.
